Festive creativity takes the cake at care home’s Christmas cake competition

This year the annual Barchester Healthcare Christmas Cake Competition is underway for all the homes across the UK. Brampton View Care Home in Northampton enters every year without hesitation and Head Chef Glenn Coombs, astonished residents’ staff and visitors with his incredible entry, a magnificent if not a little terrifying, Krampus themed Cake!

Every year at Brampton View Care Home, Glenn's creations are the talk of the home, with this edible masterpiece is no exception. With the horns, teeth and Santa in the glass ball it’s a brilliant example of his baking and crafting skills. Glenn is also known for all the beautiful individually crafted birthday cakes he makes for each resident on their special day.

You will find this amazing centrepiece of artwork and daring the dark side of festive fun in the main reception and café area of the home for all to see, along with the story of Krampus. Do you know the story behind "Krampus" and will you be on his naughty list this year? While Santa rewards good children, Krampus the horned, half goat, half demon companion and from central European folklore is the dark counterpart. December 5th is known as Krampusnacht, with his job to punish the naughty children.

There is even more cake as the lovely residents at Brampton View have entered their own beautifully decorated cakes from around our communities, Residential have created a beautiful traditionally decorated cake, Nursing on Daisy Lane have beautifully dressed their cake with penguins and the memory lane communities have equally decorated 2 cakes with gingerbread men, penguins and of course we cannot forget the Grinch.

General Manager, Elina House shared “We are super proud of Glenn and his daring to embrace the darker side of Christmas and festive season. The cake is 100% edible (well nearly you can't eat the eyes). We wish Glenn and our resident’s good luck with the competition; we are committed at Brampton View to provide wellbeing and meaningful activities for all our residents”.
