This year the churches have invited representatives of other faiths and civic leaders to come together to demonstrate a shared commitment to building peace and understanding, and to fostering dialogue and mutual support, so that all may be a blessing to our neighbours.

Civic leaders attending include the Lord Lieutenant, the Mayor of Northampton and the Chair of West Northamptonshire Council along with leaders from the political parties in WNC.

Colin Wilkinson (Moderator) said: “Churches and other faith communities are key organisations in the town providing valued support to hundreds of people and playing an active role in supporting and building local communities.

“People are increasingly anxious in these turbulent times. This is a key moment to recognise the role of churches and the importance of faith and spirituality at this really challenging time for the world, the country and our town.“

Recent research demonstrates that faith groups provide thousands of pounds of help in kind supporting individuals and aiding health and community services. Churches are often the social glue in fragmented communities.

Colin Wilkinson continued: “We believe in the power of hope in difficult times and that this requires the hard work of understanding and partnership with others. Churches are committed to that task – sharing the love of God and our optimism that, in God, love can make things better.

“Churches in Northampton appreciate our contacts with the councils, civic leaders and other faiths. CTN is committed to working together with others for the good of Northampton, supporting those in trouble, promoting peace and social cohesion and sharing the love of God”, Colin concluded.

All are welcome at the service at 5pm on Sunday 25th January.
