Weston Favell Shopping centre has published a list of its stores which are remaining open during the coronavirus lockdown.

Many retailers and fast-food outlets started pulling down shutters even before Boris Johnson's announcement on Monday night that only shops providing essential goods and services – food and grocery, pharmacies, banks and post offices – can continue trading.

A handful of Weston Favell's 60-plus shops and banks will stay open with the centre's anchor store Tesco operating reduced hours and reserving time for the elderly and NHS workers.

A spokesman for Weston Favell Shopping said: "We are working hard to ensure that we can continue to provide a level of service to support retailers who are continuing to trade and serving their communities at this very challenging and unprecedented time.

"The situation is evolving quickly so please be aware that published opening hours may vary among retailers and change at short notice."

"We would appreciate your support in respecting Government’s advice to adhere to social distancing and please check retailers’ social media channels and websites for news on individual store closures or opening times.
