Two independent businesses join forces to share store on market town high street in ‘really exciting new chapter’

Two independent businesses have joined forces on a Northamptonshire high street, and sharing a bricks and mortar store is hoped to be the start of a “really exciting new chapter”.

In recent weeks, Cécile Harris from The Slow Life moved from her existing premises on Towcester’s high street to Miller & Chalk at 213 Watling Street with founder Louise Miller-Chalk.

Luxury homeware brand Miller & Chalk committed to staying at the heart of Towcester at the start of 2026, after two successful pop-ups in August 2025 and in the run up to Christmas.

The business’ soft furnishings span feather cushions, made-to-measure curtains and blinds, table linen and blankets – and Louise is the mastermind behind the meticulous attention-to-detail that goes into creating the products.

Luckily enough for customers across the county and beyond, the founder decided to stay and commit to Towcester’s high street – and reopened on Valentine’s Day after refurbishing the shop to make it everything she dreamed of.

Down the road, Cécile opened The Slow Life in November 2025 and the business specialises in gifts, homeware and antiques.

Cécile’s background is in e-commerce and online marketing, but admitted she had been watching Towcester’s high street for three years having moved to the area the year before that.

Cécile is passionate about working with small businesses across the UK to offer a curation of products you would not find anywhere else but in The Slow Life. The shop sells creations from small makers, as well as antique and vintage pieces.

The founders recently took to social media to announce that The Slow Life has moved into Miller & Chalk, and Cécile admitted to her followers that this was not part of the vision when she began the journey of having a bricks and mortar store.

She said that “the best opportunities come unexpectedly” and sharing a space means longer opening hours, more time to work on other ideas she has been putting off, and the chance to host workshops and community events.

Louise shared to her social media following that the shop had always felt too big for her and this change felt like “the perfect fit”.

“We loved the idea of bringing two independent businesses together under one roof, creating a space where you can discover even more beautiful things while continuing to support small businesses,” said Louise.

“The front of the shop will still be Miller & Chalk, filled with all the products you know and love. Then, as you make your way through, you’ll find The Slow Life, stocked with gorgeous gifts, candles, accessories, and so much more.”

The pop-up room and workshop space will still be an integral part of the store, making this a one-to-watch spot on the market town’s high street. Miller & Chalk and The Slow Life are open at 213 Watling Street from 10am until 4pm from Wednesday to Saturday.
