Popular cocktail bar in Northampton town centre closes after three-and-a-half ‘unforgettable’ years ahead of relaunch
A popular cocktail bar in Northampton town centre has sadly closed after three and a half ‘unforgettable’ years – but a new concept is on the horizon.
The Velvet Room on the corner of St Giles’ Street and fish Street, at the former Baroque building, published a closure notice on its Facebook page in the New Year.
It reads: “What began as an idea in 2022 to create something new and unique for Northampton town centre grew into a space filled with afternoon brunches, celebrations & memories.
“More than anything, Velvet Room was about the people - the incredible customers who filled the room with life day after day, and with our fun and personable approach, we met some truly great people and thank you all for the custom, support and the laughs along the way.

“After three and a half unforgettable years, as of today, this chapter of Velvet Room is coming to a close. But endings create space for something better...”
The post continued: “Behind closed doors, we're quietly refining the concept, refreshing the room, and reworking the experience as we prepare what comes next. A new look. A new name. A refined experience. Same spirit - elevated.
“From the team that brought you Velvet Room, we look forward to welcoming you all back again soon keep your eyes peeled.”
Velvet Room has been contacted for further comment.
The venue opened in July 2022 at the former Baroque, Belvedere and Boot and Shoe building.
Since then it has amassed a popular reputation for bottomless brunches and cocktails earning a 4.7 out of five star rating from 339 Google reviews.
One review reads: “Absolutely lovely! Been here couple times now and every time it’s been brilliant.”
Another wrote: “What a fabulous experience from start to finish.”
Another reviewer said: “Best cocktail bar ever, great atmosphere, great service."
