Popular business announces shock closure due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ after positively manic start in new location
A popular Northampton business has announced its shock closure due to “unforeseen circumstances”, despite having an “absolutely manic” and positive start in its new location.
The team behind Potz Ceramic Studio took to social media on Wednesday (August 12) to say the business has ceased trading, and encouraged anyone due to collect pottery to do so as soon as possible when texted.
A photo with text on accompanied the post and read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Potz. We wish to thank you for all your support over the past six years.”
The business, which was previously situated at Billing Garden Village before making the move to Weston Favell Shopping Centre in September 2025, was a family-friendly environment for people of all ages and abilities with a desire to paint pottery.

After nearly two decades in its former location and a number of changes in ownership, the team entered a new era with a fresh space, more tables and innovative events when they opened the doors at Weston Favell Shopping Centre.
The team prided themselves on offering a calm environment to get creative and try something new at an affordable price, as well as their growing range of items to paint, and this is why it was so well-received by the Northampton community.
Business director Ronald Gunn previously told the Chronicle & Echo that the team had been looking for a different premises for years, but this was initially intended to be a second studio in addition to their location in Billing.
However, after the business had to close for three days due to flooding in December 2024, this troubling time made them realise they needed to move their first location altogether.

Having seen an advertisement for a unit in Weston Favell Shopping Centre, which welcomes around 8,000 visitors per month, the team saw this as an ideal opportunity for growth.
A five-year lease was signed just three months ago in June and the business opened in the former premises of Silhouette Youth Theatre, upstairs nearby to Boots Pharmacy and Card Factory.
This newspaper has always been met with positivity when speaking to the Potz Ceramic Studio team, including at the start of 2025 when the booming business revealed its taking had increased by a whopping 39 percent and they were on track to expand – which was seen in the year-and-a-half to follow.
This is a big loss for Weston Favell Shopping Centre and the wider Northampton town, particularly after such a positive start in the new location.
