Own Merit Coffee Shop welcomes Brazil Women’s Rugby team

Northampton’s Own Merit Coffee Shop was buzzing with excitement recently as it played host to some very special guests — the Brazilian women’s international rugby team.
The squad, currently in the UK for training and World Cup fixtures, stopped by the independent café to refuel and enjoy a taste of Northampton hospitality. Staff and customers alike were thrilled to see the players, who are recognised globally as one of the rising forces in women’s rugby.
For Own Merit, the visit was about more than coffee. The shop has built its reputation around an ethos of inclusivity, empowerment, and creating opportunities for people who might otherwise be overlooked. From supporting local talent to championing community initiatives, Own Merit has become known as a space where everyone belongs.
“It was an absolute honour to serve the team,” said Darryn Frost.
“Their values of teamwork, resilience, and determination align so closely with what we try to represent here at Own Merit. We’re proud to support women in sport and to welcome world-class athletes who share our spirit.”
The visit has already become a talking point among locals, with many praising the café for not only celebrating sport but also living up to its mission of community connection and empowerment.
