A popular Indian restaurant near Northampton has re-opened with a special offer for NHS or emergency service workers after a three-week closure over coronavirus.

Araminta's in Yardley Hastings shut down at the beginning of the Covid-19 lockdown to protect their staff but now feel ready to serve the public within the Government guidelines.

As a token of appreciation for their hard work, NHS and emergency service workers can get their order for half price and the former Wootton restaurant will donate £1 every time the offer is redeemed.

Managing director Syedul Islam said: “The safety of our customers is our top priority and we understand the concerns during the pandemic.

"Due to the demand of our customers, we have carefully re-opened following the Government guidelines.

"We wanted to show our appreciation of the pandemic heroes, incredible people of the NHS and blue light emergency staff who work on the frontline who under the current situation day in and day out take risk to ensure the safety of other around us.

"They are extremely busy within the coming months ahead we want they to enjoy the treat with their friends and family without the financial burden.

"They are the well deserved heroes of our community and we believe the minimum we could do is show our appreciation."

Araminta's spent almost 20 years at the Wootton Fields Centre before moving to Bedford Road East in Yardley Hastings in July last year.

The coronavirus lockdown last month forced them to close 'to put the family and their staff as first priority', according to Mr Islam.

But the demand from customers encouraged the re-opening as a takeaway with close adherance to the social distancing guidance on Sunday (April 19).

Mr Islam said the industry is difficult at the minute with fewer people buying takeaways than before the crisis, but hoped they could help in some way.

"We are extremely proud to be a part of this community and in tough time communities need to come together," he said.

"We want to say 'thank you' for the dedication and commitment who all who have gone above and beyond.
