Innovative cake baker has hit the ground running with extremely unique hand-piped designs in Northampton

An innovative cake baker has hit the ground running with her extremely unique hand-piped designs since launching her business in Northampton in April.

Supreena Patel is the founder of Supreme Cakes and she specialises in buttercream floral cakes and cupcakes, all hand-piped and presented in boxes, bouquets and letter trays. Two months on from launching the venture, she made her first wedding cake.

“I’m self-taught and bake from home,” Supreena from East Hunsbury told the Chronicle & Echo. “I’ve baked for years for family and friends, and my baking has gotten more and more creative. I was a Spanish tutor before setting up the baking business but the cakes took over.

“I’ve had a lot of support and encouragement from friends, who were happy to pay and asked me why don’t I start it up and see. I had a hip replacement last year and spent a fair bit of time at home recovering, which is when I practiced piping and decorating.”

Supreena is proud to use quality ingredients and takes time to work on the intricate details of her designs, which is reflected in her prices. She describes Supreme Cakes as tasty creations that double up as showstoppers.

“People say they are amazing to look at and a feast for the eyes,” said Supreena. “I haven’t had anyone say they’re not happy and many clients have come back multiple times already. They are happy with what they get and the product speaks for itself.”

Customers praise the presentation of Supreena’s creations, particularly her floral designs which are an edible alternative to a bouquet of flowers that can be customised for any occasion.

Supreena continued: “The floral stuff gives me a creative edge and there’s nothing like that here in Northampton. I’ve taught myself and watched tutorials from other bakers from other cities.

“My proudest achievements are my five-star food hygiene rating and making my first wedding cake in June. It’s always difficult as a start-up as you have nothing to show so I make mock ups myself. People have taken a chance on me and been over the moon.”

Looking to the future of Supreme Cakes, Supreena has had some interest in teaching piping and after she is settled into her newfound path as a business owner, she may look to offer this in the future in the form of group parties.
