As the new year is upon us, here are the 12 businesses that have opened their doors to customers during 2022.
It may have been a difficult time to set up shop – with the continuing recovery from the pandemic and the rising cost of living – but these businesses have made it their mission to be a positive contribution to the town.
From a renovated portable horsebox cafe situated in Harlestone Firs, to social media sensation Butterwick Bakery taking the town by storm, we have seen newbies across all sectors.

9. Burgers ‘n’ Spuds
The cheeseburger takeaway and restaurant opened in Wellingborough Road in March, with high standards to reach with the owner claiming his food was better than Five Guys, McDonald’s and Burger King. It had always been owner Amir’s dream to own a business, and he did not hesitate on taking a punt when the location was available. They have been tackling the competition on the busy street for nine months now, and hope to continue doing so. Photo: Logan Macleod

10. KS Flowers
This new flower boutique, which promised something luxurious and different from what is already on the market, opened up in The Ridings Arcade, St Giles’ Street at the start of November. The business owner has been a florist for the past three years as a hobby alongside her full-time job and after demand from her customers to open a shop, she took on the venture full-time. 11. No. 68 Coffee House
Abington welcomed this coffee house into the community with open arms when it opened its doors for the first time in July. The aim when they opened in King Edward Road was to sell great coffee and cakes and now that has been achieved, the cafe looks forward to introducing a new food menu in early 2023. They have also hosted a number of events, including wreath making and cocktail masterclasses. Photo: No. 68 Coffee House
