Frankie & Benny's has not confirmed whether its two restaurants in Northampton will have closed down or not when the lockdown ends.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that up to 120 of the Italian restaurant's branches were at risk of not reopening.

Frankie & Benny’s owner The Restaurant Group (TRG) is one of the biggest restaurant operators in Britain and also owns the popular restaurants Chiquito and Wagamama.

Following the announcement, the Chronicle and Echo asked the Restaurant Group if it would be reopening its two branches in Northampton - one in Sixfields, and another in Riverside Retail Park.

However, after two days and repeated requests, the Restaurant Group has not responded.

In an email reportedly sent to managers on Tuesday this week (June 2), the company said: "Many sites are no longer viable to trade and will remain closed permanently.

"The Covid-19 crisis has significantly impacted our ability to trade profitably, so we've taken the tough decision to close these restaurants now."

Due to the pandemic TRG had to place roughly 22,000 of its staff on the government’s furlough scheme, however many will now face redundancy.

It comes after TRG fell into administration at the end of March, which also put the future of Northampton's Chiquito restaurant in Sixfields at risk.

Currently its other restaurant chains, which include trg concessions, Bruning & Price, Coast to Coast, Firejacks, Joes Kitchen and Garfunkel’s are temporarily closed as per the government’s coronavirus lockdown measures.
