Founder pivots from ‘in-person wedding directory’ to helping couples plan their big day in Northampton
A founder has pivoted from offering an in-person wedding directory at the heart of Northampton town centre, to helping couples plan their big day and launching a podcast.
The Wedding Rooms, located in Market Square above Cafe Track, hoped to become the go-to place for brides and grooms-to-be to find out about local suppliers and plan their wedding in a fun and relaxed environment.
The business was opened by Megan Lord in March last year, with the aim of taking the stress out of planning a wedding for the engaged couples of our county.
Originally, the first room was a permanent wedding fair featuring local suppliers, the second was the preloved room, and the third was the gifting room for guests to make the most of.

Now, the business has evolved as the main aspect that was being utilised was couples seeking support with planning their weddings – and the shop element did not receive the footfall Megan envisioned.
Megan now offers a downloadable support package for £67 for couples to track and budget their wedding, design invitations and signs, and it is packed with industry tips to make the process as smooth as possible.
The founder also launched a podcast, The Wedding Rooms On Air, which offers a look behind the scenes with suppliers. The upstairs room has been turned into a podcast studio to facilitate this and people can hire the space for themselves, which Megan has named The Podcast Rooms.
Though Megan has shifted away from operating as an in-person wedding directory and shop, she encourages couples to pay her a visit – as all the information and products from suppliers are still there to take a look at as part of the planning process.
“The digital download is £67 and if people want to add a support package, we can do it at £150 or £250 depending on what they want,” said Megan.
“This helps them get on the right path with ideas and concepts, and I put them in touch with the right suppliers. It launches the planning and they can have me as a point of contact throughout. This offers support and community.”
Megan hopes to show engaged couples that there is a middle ground between having a wedding planner or opting against it, as well as showcasing how many wonderful suppliers there are in Northamptonshire.
The founder hopes to reach the masses as she knows there are many who would benefit from this level of support, which Megan hopes is accessible for all, tailored to suit their needs, and located in a central space.
