Former Caffe Nero site in prime Northampton town centre spot to be transformed into cafe and brunch business
The former Caffe Nero site in a prime Northampton town centre spot is to be transformed into a family-run cafe and brunch business.
Caffe Nero was open at the junction of Abington Street and Dychurch Lane for 15 years until it closed in September 2020, with signs on the door stating it was due to circumstances beyond the business’ control.
The prime location has now been taken over by father and daughter duo Xhetan and Xhenselda Shehi, who are turning it into a modern cafe and brunch business.
Xhenselda, who is also known as Jenny, told the Chronicle & Echo that the venue will be called Times Cafe and the aim is to open in the new year, around mid-to-late January.

“We are aiming for somewhere modern and good quality,” said Jenny. “We want it to be a home away from home with cosy vibes and the comfort you would get in your own home.
“We are working hard to brighten the place up during the refurbishment, and are spending a lot of time making it as modern as it can be.”
The menu has not yet been finalised, but Jenny guarantees a variety of hot and cold drinks, traditional breakfasts and classic dishes like avocado on toast.
There will also be doughs that originate in Albania, which you can enjoy with toppings like honey and Nutella. All the offerings will be homemade and of high quality.

“We liked the spot and it’s close to workplaces if people want to grab a bite before they start the day or at lunchtime,” said Jenny. “We like the location and its foot traffic. There are a couple of cafes close to us which will be competition, but we will bring different and modern vibes.”
The traditional menu will feature something for everyone and the family hope to use their experience in building rapport with customers to make Times Cafe a success.
The Shehi family used to own a takeaway in Towcester serving pizzas, burgers and kebabs for around 20 years, and this is a big and different step towards an aesthetic venue at the heart of Northampton town centre.
