Director Ruairidh McQueen added: “Over the last 25 years, customers have made our business the success it is.

"We’re delighted to have opened our latest depot and are looking forward to delivering fresh milk direct to doorsteps in Northampton and neighbouring towns.”

McQueens' started off as a single milk round in St Andrews ran by couple Mick and Meg McQueen in 1995.

The pair now operate 13 distribution depots in the north of England and Scotland and employs 700 members of staff, including the couple’s five children who hold senior positions within the business.

The company, which also delivers fruit juices, fresh eggs and alternative milk products like oat milk in glass bottles, has also opened new depots in Carlisle and Sheffield this year with demand for doorstep deliveries growing.

A new website has also recently launched designed to give customers direct control of their orders and to allow them to make changes in advance, and to pay directly.

Depot manager David Rodger said the hub is 'ideally located' and they expect to increase their workforce 'significantly' before the end of the year.
