People in Northampton made the most of B&Q re-opening its stores over the weekend after a brief closure because of the coronavirus lockdown

Customers queued in scenes that have become common outside supermarkets with spaces for each person in orderly lines around the car park outside the Towcester Road branch.

On Saturday morning (April 25), staff said the queues were running smoothly and they were getting positive feedback from customers.

Two weeks ago some workers were verbally abused as hundreds of cars queued for 'click and collect' orders at B&Q, with many being turned away.

B&Q Northampton unit manager Daniel Sharpe said: "At B&Q Northampton, we've been working hard to implement a number of social distancing measures to help offer a shopping environment that's safe for everyone.

"Similar to a supermarket, we're strictly limiting the number of customers in store at any one time and setting out a designated queuing area outside, complete with markers every two metres to help remind everyone to respect each other’s personal space.

"Inside the store, we have two metre floor markers throughout as well as other point of sale, and perspex screens have been installed at the checkouts.

"We're pleased to report that our customers are adhering to these measures.

"I also want to say a massive thank you to my colleagues at B&Q Northampton.

"They have been incredibly supportive of the changes we've made, and are doing a great job of meeting our customers' needs, while also keeping everyone safe."
