Debenhams were forced into administration in early-April land revealed 16 of its stores would shut for good.

But the Drapery site survived — much to the relief of shoppers out today.

Another shopper said: "It's good that Debenhams is staying — we've lost all our other high street shops.

"I need some work trousers. I know there's online shopping but I prefer to see it in front of me than get it online. But if they haven't got what I need today I'll shop online if I have to.

"It feels a bit anxious to be here today. I feel wary."
