Weston Favell Shopping Centre has explained why Tesco trolleys are taking up most of the disabled parking spaces after a complaint to the Chronicle & Echo.

A member of the public said they could not understand why the shopping trolleys had been placed over the bays to the right hand side of the entrance.

A shopping centre spokesman said it made the queuing system more efficient and there were other disabled bays elsewhere in the car park.

"We made the decision with Tesco management to streamline the queuing system as customers were previously having to cut across queues outside to access the trolleys or having to wait for a trolley upstairs in store, meaning further delay for shoppers trying to enter the building," they said.

"This way the trolleys can also be safely collected and cleaned before they enter the store, making the wait for a trolley shorter."

"There are still a number of disabled bays available near to More than Mobility - just not to the right of the main entrance."
