Take a look at how Sixfields in Northampton has dramatically evolved following big investment in recent years.
Sixfields has seen some major changes over the years, with some big named brands moving in.
With thousands of new homes being built in the area, it’s no surprise to see major businesses invest in Sixfields.
Fast food incomings include some names such as Wagamama, Five Guys and Popeyes, adding to the already well-established McDonald’s, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut offerings.
There has also been some huge steps forward at Northampton Town Football Club, with works on the East Stand set to start soon, the completion of an all-weather community football pitch and the club flying in League One.
As well as these new additions, the area still boasts a Cineworld, Bella Italia, two five star hygiene rated pubs, The Gym, Sainsbury’s, M&S, Boots and more.
Other notable mentions include the Cleveland Cable Company, Aldi supermarket and also B&M.
Let’s take a look at how Sixfields has evolved over the years.

5. Popeyes
Louisiana Chicken specialists Popeyes open its new 68-seat restaurant and dual lane drive-thru at the former Buddies USA Diner in Sixfields in July 2023. The first three people in the queue on opening day won free chicken sandwiches for a whole year. The first three pedestrians to win the prize were 19-year-old Mitchell, 20-year-old Summer and 18-year-old Taylor, who arrived at around 9pm the night before (July 16). When asked why they made the decision to camp out overnight to secure their place in the queue, Mitchell said: “Who does not love chicken?” Photo: -

6. Cleveland Cable Company
Cleveland Cable Company (CCC) received planning permission in August 2022 to build an industrial unit on a car park in Duston Mill Lane. Explaining the development, the firm said it had outgrown its midlands headquarters in Milton Keynes. The building was completed in 2023 and is used to process cable, specifically the cutting of cable, according to plans. Photo: -

7. Chiquitos
Chiquito closed its doors for good in September 2023 after eight years in Sixfields. Builders are currently gutting out the premises, and as a result, there is a lot of speculation about what could be opening up next. Chron and Echo are currently chasing up a lead given to us by builders on site. Photo: Logan MacLeod

8. Sixfields Stadium
Cobblers chairman Kelvin Thomas hopes the club will be in a position to ‘ramp up’ progress on the East Stand within the next month, writes James Heneghan. The club’s land deal with West Northamptonshire Council is close to being officially signed off and once all the legal paperwork is completed, work can restart on the East Stand. GRS Group company ISC were on site recently to begin preparatory works. Asked when the East Stand might be finished, Thomas said: "GRS have given us an idea as to when the stand might be completed but it’s contingent on so many different things. As far as things stand right now, I’d like to think it would be done well before the end of next season.” Photo: -
