Daventry Country Park (DCP) temporarily closed its play area on Friday (January 8) to allow the ground to recover and to carry out drainage and resurfacing works.

A DCP spokeswoman wrote on Facebook: "To protect the area and make sure it is in a good condition come the warmer weather, we have decided to close it temporarily for a few weeks.

"This will hopefully allow the ground to recover and provide an opportunity for us to carry out drainage and resurfacing works in time for the spring months.

"We understand this may be disappointing – particularly for our younger visitors – but we hope that taking action now will ensure it is in a good condition come spring. It will also help avoid any slips or falls that might occur due to the muddy conditions.

"Thank you for your understanding."

One parent wrote underneath the Facebook post: "We are so fortunate to have this facility."

Another parent said: "At least they are sorting it."

Some of the park's other facilities remain open, including the café (for takeaways only), the toilets, car park, and the woodland, meadow and reservoir walks.

The park is expected to reopen in the Spring.
