So many fondly-remembered Northampton pubs have shut their doors over the years but are still in the memories of their customers.
These photos - researched by Dave Knibb, the Northampton author of 'Last Orders: A History and Directory of Northampton Pubs' - show some of Northampton's old stomping grounds.

5. The Moat Tavern in St Mary's Street
Dave said: "The Moat Tavern opened at the beginning of 1880. The pub thrived for many years. The post war years were not so great though, things were changing and the boroughs were being redeveloped year on year. By the late 1960s, The Moat Tavern and surrounding area was earmarked for clearance for the building of Barclaycard House, and another part of the old town disappeared. The council was keen to get building underway and had pretty much demolished the whole area before The Moat’s time ran out. Although I have pictures of The Moat Tavern in better days, this situation created a perfect photo opportunity to see the Moat in perfect isolation, desolate, unwanted though certainly not unloved. The most evocative of the many hundreds of pub photos I’ve seen." Photo: Dave Knibb
