To help people shop local during lockdown a new online ‘continuity log’ has been launched – detailing the businesses that are open, those closed, the ones offering takeaways and businesses signed up for the town centre’s new phone or click and collect scheme.

This continuity log, launched by Northampton town centre Business Improvement District (BID), has been designed to promote town centre banks, businesses, retailers, and independents.

Mark Mullen, BID operations manager, said: “We are here to support town centre businesses and to help them continue to do business during lockdown. So many are adapting to the challenges of lockdown by delivering, taking part in our click and collect service or offering takeaways.

“We are updating our continuity log daily during this second national lockdown, so if you want to be sure about which businesses are open and how to collect your orders this is an ideal first point of call.”

The BID is running a new ‘phone or click and collect’ scheme during this second national lockdown, which means shoppers can place orders with individual shops and then collect packages from a dedicated unit on St Giles Street. This is particularly useful if shoppers are placing orders at multiple stores.

During the second national lockdown, although non-essentials shops have to close, they can remain open for click and collect.

Mark added: “You can shop at at as many stores of you want and then collect all your shopping, in one go, from our unit in St Giles Street. If this is of interest, please make sure you request this phone or click and collect’ service when placing your orders with town centre businesses.”
