A couple from Northampton have opened a new 'alternative and healthy' juice bar in the heart of the town centre this week (Monday).

Carl Taylor and Chelsie Newberry, from Kingsthorpe, opened Juice Cafe in Bridge Street in a bid to offer the town something 'different' as more people 'want a healthy lifestyle now'.

The cafe sells a wide range of homemade, pure juice smoothies, bagels, wraps, paninis, 'deluxe' milkshakes and more.

Carl, 32, said: "The idea for this came from the pandemic. People want a healthy lifestyle now, so we created the concept from the situation we're in at the moment.

"The plan was initially to go to festivals then we went back into lockdown and we had to think of what to do. So we opened in Bridge Street. We're going to get the students who go down there for alcohol and come back the next day for their juice! People have gone back to work now and gyms have reopened, too, which is great.

"Students are a perfect market. They're so conscious now of what goes into their bodies; it's scary what some of the big manufacturers put in their products.

"Our juice is pure, fresh and a great product. We create every juice ourselves, so we know what goes into it."

Carl and Chelsie, 25, who are engaged and recently had a child over lockdown, said they have been hard at work getting ready for the opening date.

They said: "The best part has been opening the doors. We've done everything ourselves, painting the walls, the signage, the juice making, and it's great we've already had customers coming in.

"We're different, I don't think we're muscling in on any business in the town, and we're a friendly, family business."

Carl, who went to Weston Favell Academy, said being from the town also has its advantages. He added: "When I start deliveries, I know every street in the town so I can get there quickly!"

The couple also own another Juice Cafe in Daventry.
