A third lockdown was announced by the Prime Minister Boris Johnson on January 4, meaning the closure of all non-essential shops, hairdressers, gyms and entertainment venues in England.

The Grosvenor shopping centre in Northampton announced that the majority of its stores will be closed from December 31 but the centre will remain open to provide the public access to essential shops.

A spokesperson for the shopping centre said: "The health of our retailers, centre teams and visitors is paramount and we continue to work hard to ensure people are being supported wherever possible.

The Grosvenor shopping centre is only open to provide access to essential shops under Tier Four restrictions.

"We thank you for your patience and understanding during this challenging time. We will keep our customers updated of developments via our digital channels."

The following shops in the Northampton Grosvenor shopping centre are still open under lockdown restrictions:

- Boots

- Leafy House

- M&S Simply Food

- Sainsbury’s

- Superdrug

- Timpsons

- Vision Express

- WHSmith

The following shops are offering click and collect and takeaway services:

- Costa

- iStore

- Michael Jones Jeweller

- Next

- Office
