Weston Favell Shopping Centre has set a limit on the number of shoppers as part of a range of measures to allow it to reopen safely.

Two members of a household can visit at any one time, a one-way system, hand sanitising stations and queuing areas are among the new rules.

"The centre would like to thank their staff and retailers who are all working extremely hard in very challenging and unprecedented circumstances to ensure visitors are able to access goods and services safely," a spokesman said.

Weston Favell Shopping Centre has been closed for the last eight weeks for all retailers, except those providing essential goods and services – groceries, pharmacies, banks and Post Offices.

The spokesman said the changes put in place have been 'challenging for all' but recent weeks have been 'efficient and calm', with queue times reduced and staff able to tend to other matters.

But as the Government eases restrictions on what stores can open, more are gradually reopening throughout the centre, meaning an increasing number of shoppers are heading to Weston Favell.

The shopping centre asks customers to respect Government advice on social distancing, including standing no closer than two metres when completing a transaction or when queuing.

To encourage safe social distancing, the centre has been enforced with a capacity limit to a certain number of customers at any one time - staff will be managing the entrance during peak hours.

Shoppers are advised to only use card payments and contactless where possible, only come to the centre when completely necessary and not in groups.

The centre has implemented a one-way system throughout the centre with arrows on the floors to direct people around the mall safely.

There will be regular radio tannoy messages and posters advising of the changes on site, hand sanitising stations and queueing areas to minimise risk when waiting during busy periods.

Visitors are also encouraged to check retailers’ social media channels and websites for news on individual store closures or opening times.

The situation is still evolving so please be aware that published opening hours may vary among retailers and change at short notice, the spokesman added.
