Burger King reopens in Northampton Market Square ready for the shoppers to slowly return

Town centre gearing up for Monday when non-essential shops can unlock their doors

Burger King has reopened its Northampton Market Square restaurant ready for people to start venturing into the the town centre again.

The fast-food giant, which dubs itself the Home of the Whopper, closed its doors ahead of the Covid-19 lockdown on March 23.

Non-essential shops have been given the green light to open their doors from Monday (June 15).

But Burger King says the Market Square eaterie is strictly takeaway only or for delivery orders via via Deliveroo or Just Eat.

BK UK's managing director Katie Evans said: “We are so pleased to be able to open more restaurants this week and slowly but surely get back to ‘normal’, ensuring all safety measures are in place.”

The Northampton restaurant is one of 52 opening this week. If all goes well, plans are to open another 300 restaurants — around two-thirds of the total — by the end of the month.l

There is no hint about when BK's in Abington Street and Weston Favell will fully open.

However the Abington Street branch is open for delivery only. Burger King has put a number of safety measures in place to keep staff and customers safe.

These include additional PPE such as masks and gloves for staff, stringent cleaning measures, contactless delivery options via Deliveroo and Just Eat and all Burger King staff comprehensively trained on the Government’s social distancing measures – including how to run kitchens hygienically, whilst abiding by them.

Customers will not able to access the full Burger King menu but favourites such as Chicken Royale, Bacon Double Cheeseburger and Whopper will all be available.
