A high-street bank has announced it will shut its Northampton branch next year.

TSB, in Abington Street, is the latest blow for the town’s main shopping street, which has recently seen big high street names such as Cafe Nero and Clintons close.

The banking giant had already announced 64 closures across the UK in 2020. It has now added a further 164 branches to the closure list, which will all shut for good next year.

The local branch will close its doors for the final time on June 16, 2021.

Debbie Crosbie, chief executive of TSB, said: “Closing any of our branches is never an easy decision, but our customers are banking differently – with a marked shift to digital banking.

“We are reshaping our business to transform the customer experience and set us up for the future.

“This means having the right balance between branches on the high street and our digital platforms, enabling us to offer the very best experience for our personal and business customers across the UK.

“We remain committed to our branch network and will retain one of the largest in the UK.”

As part of the closures, 900 jobs, nationally, will be lost as the bank will be left with 290 branches, in comparison to 475 now.
