Beloved family-run takeaway of more than four decades ‘over the moon’ to be named best in the town
A beloved family-run takeaway of more than four decades is “over the moon” to be named the best in the town at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Kingsthorpe Spice, in Alexandra Terrace, was named the best takeaway in Northampton at the fourth annual Prestige Curry Awards in October.
The business has served authentic Indian cuisine for more than 40 years and is known for its friendly service and high quality, homemade food.
Owner Mamun Ali, whose family took over the business two decades ago, said: “We are over the moon and it’s wonderful to achieve this kind of award.”

Having won two awards in 2024 during the family’s 20th anniversary year, Mamun is proud to build on this success as a result of the trust from loyal customers in the quality food and flavours they produce.
When asked what people like most about the business and what keeps them coming back for more, Mamun said: “We use fresh ingredients to create the best quality food. There is no compromise on our quality. That’s why customers keep coming back, it’s wonderful.”
Mamun says 2025 has been a good year for Kingsthorpe Spice and his proudest achievement is the loyal customer base they continue to build on.
“With no support or people coming back, it wouldn’t be possible to run the business,” he said. “That’s everything for us.”

With a team who work tirelessly to provide the best of the best, Mamun is hopeful that the business will only continue to improve as time goes on.
The fourth annual Prestige Curry Awards were held on October 23 and the evening was a vibrant celebration of culinary talent, community spirit and fantastic food.
The awards praised best takeaway winner Kingsthorpe Spice as being known for its “mouthwatering dishes and top quality service” – which have proved that great curry can be just as magical from the comfort of your home.
The event was filled with laughter, celebration and recognition for the hardworking teams behind these beloved establishments, as well as their passion, commitment to quality, and the power of food to bring people and cultures together.
