Amazon launches operations at Northampton warehouse with 2,000 jobs planned by end of 2026

Customer deliveries have begun from Amazon’s new £500 million fulfilment centre in Northampton, with the company set to create more than 2,000 jobs at the site by December 2026.

The 550,000-square-foot warehouse at SEGRO Park is now operational, with hundreds of employees already working at the facility picking, packing and shipping customer orders.

Amazon said the fulfilment centre is one of the most advanced logistics operations in the UK. The building stores tens of millions of items across three floors of Amazon robotics, where thousands of Hercules robots retrieve products and bring them directly to employees.

Further recruitment is under way, with roles available including engineers, HR and IT professionals, finance specialists and operations teams.

Pay for frontline roles starts at £29,744 per year and includes private medical insurance, subsidised meals, an employee discount and funded career development from day one.

The start of deliveries from the Northampton site comes as Amazon announced plans to open another £500 million facility in Kettering later this year. The 900,000-square-foot site is expected to create more than 2,000 jobs and will be used to sort and route goods across the country.

Together, the two developments represent £1 billion of investment in Northamptonshire this year and are expected to create more than 4,000 jobs across the county.

John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, said: “A year ago we said we'd invest £40 billion in the UK. Today you can see what that means; 4,000 jobs in Northamptonshire, 2,000 in Hull, drone deliveries from Darlington, a new tech HQ in Swansea. We said we'd deliver and we have. And we're only a year in.”

He added: “At its heart, this investment is about our customers - delivering faster, offering greater choice, and making life more convenient. But it is also about creating high-quality jobs and building stronger communities across the country.”

Gareth Davies, Amazon regional director, said: “As someone from Northampton, I am proud to see this county become one of the most important regions in our UK network, and today's announcement underlines our long-term commitment to the area.

“Our new fulfilment centre is up and running, with cutting-edge robotics, a modern working environment, comprehensive benefits and genuine career development opportunities.”

Louise Wall, chief executive of Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, said the opening of the new site would provide a significant boost to the county’s economy through job creation and opportunities for local businesses.
