Thrapston Sea Cadets launch recruitment drive for young people and volunteers
Thrapston Sea Cadets are calling on both young people and adults in the local community to join their crew as the unit launches a major recruitment drive this autumn.
Based at Thrapston Boat Station, Meadow Lane, the Sea Cadets offer young people aged 12–18 the chance to learn new skills, make friends for life, and take part in exciting activities such as sailing, powerboating, kayaking, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and more.
Sgt Darren Wilson-Kean RAVC, Commanding Officer of Thrapston Sea Cadets, said:
“We welcome all young people to come along, get involved, and try out the amazing opportunities we have — from boating to adventure training, there’s something for everyone. It’s a fantastic way to build confidence, make friends and gain skills that will last a lifetime.
At the same time, we’re looking for adults to join us as volunteers. Whether uniformed or civilian, volunteers are the heart of our unit, and you don’t need any experience — just enthusiasm and a willingness to support young people.”
Volunteers at Thrapston Sea Cadets are fully supported with induction, training and ongoing support. Roles are flexible to suit people’s time and skills, from teaching activities to helping behind the scenes.
Thrapston Sea Cadets officially opened in April 2025 at Thrapston Boat Station. In just a few months, the unit has grown to 17 cadets, supported by 6 instructors and 6 committee members — but more cadets and volunteers are needed to continue its growth and success.
Thrapston Sea Cadets is part of the national charity Sea Cadets, which works with 14,000 young people between 10 and 18 across the UK, helping them broaden horizons and gain confidence through the challenge of nautical adventure and a Royal Navy ethos.
