A drive-in pantomime experience is coming to Northampton this Christmas to make up for festivities that have been cancelled due to the pandemic.

The family friendly and Covid-secure show, called Horrible Christmas, will be performed by Horrible Histories actors.

In partnership with the Birmingham Stage Company, the actors have already visited the town this summer as part of the Car Park Party, which saw locals enjoy a series of comedy, music and theatrical performances.

The panto will visit 18 towns and cities across the country during the festive season, including Northampton.

Although Horrible Histories is not what is traditionally thought as a pantomime, the company has worked hard to create a show based on a young boy needing to save Christmas.

From Victorian villains to Medieval monks, Puritan parties to Tudor treats, the history of Christmas in the company of Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell, King Henry VIII and St Nicholas will be explored.

Horrible Histories manager, Neal Foster, said: "We were thrilled to be invited to take part in the run of Car Park Party events around the country and were overwhelmed by the response of the audience, who were clearly delighted and relieved to see actors live on stage again.

"We can't wait to be back on stage in cities and towns that will be crying out for a Christmas show to entertain their families.

“As you’d expect from Horrible Histories, it’s not a traditional pantomime, but a journey through the story of Christmas in the company of the season’s most fabulous characters.

“It’s the perfect story for families this winter, as one young boy battles to save Christmas for the world, in this hilarious, joyous and moving celebration.”
