The atmosphere was electric from start to finish as more than 70 dancers lit up the stage with passion, courage and eight weeks of intense dedication.
What began 14 years ago as a small community initiative has grown into one of Northampton’s biggest annual charity events — and this year’s show proved exactly why. Organised by local dance leader Andrzej “AJ” Mialkowski, Strictly Northampton once again brought together the town’s heart, talent and generosity in a celebration like no other.
This year’s winners, Lee Whitestone and his daughter Charlotte Whitestone, stole the show with a moving and beautifully executed routine that earned standing ovations and captured the hearts of both the judges and the audience.
Their emotional connection, combined with the confidence Lee developed throughout the eight-week journey, made their victory one of the most memorable in the event’s history.
After receiving the glitterball trophy, Lee said: "I can't believe it. To dance on this stage with my daughter is something I'll never forget. It's been the experience of a lifetime."
Charlotte added: “Sharing this journey with my dad has been so special.”
While the Whitestones took home the trophy, the spirit of Strictly Northampton has never been defined by the competition.
Every contestant — from complete beginners to those who arrived full of confidence — gave everything to the eight-week journey, forming friendships, developing new skills, and embracing an experience many called life-changing.
Organiser AJ Mialkowski said: “What we saw tonight was the very best of Northampton. People challenging themselves, supporting each other, stepping far outside their comfort zone — all for charity. Every single dancer is a winner. I’m incredibly proud of them all.”
With donations still coming in, Strictly Northampton 2025 is on track to become one of the highest fundraising years in the event’s 14-year history. Contestants raised money through raffles, bake sales, workplace events and community campaigns.
Funds will support Cynthia Spencer Hospice and the Step by Step Dance & Arts Foundation, helping families, children and vulnerable individuals across Northamptonshire.
The Royal & Derngate audience was treated to an evening of exceptional entertainment, featuring:
- Dazzling costumes
- Dramatic lighting
- Expert choreography
- Emotional show dances
- A vibrant judging panel
- More than 70 dancers performing ballroom, Latin and show dance
- A finale that brought the theatre to its feet
Many spectators described the event as “the best Strictly Northampton yet.”
Strictly Northampton 2025 simply would not be possible without the extraordinary support of the community.
AJ expressed deep appreciation to the many local businesses and supporters backing the event: “Our sponsors are the backbone of Strictly Northampton. Their generosity and belief in what we do allow us to create something truly special for the town. Thank you for standing with us year after year.”
A special thank you was given to the dedicated volunteers from Step by Step Dance School, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and throughout the night to ensure the event ran smoothly.
“Our Step by Step volunteers are incredible. They give their time, energy and heart from early morning to late at night. I’m so grateful for their commitment and love for this event.”
AJ also praised the staff and team at the Royal & Derngate for their professionalism, organisation and ongoing support: “Royal & Derngate is our home. The team here is fantastic — always helpful, always supportive, always giving us everything we need to make this show the best it can be. Thank you for being part of the Strictly family.”
A special thank you went to the incredible Professional Dancers, whose commitment, patience and passion bring Strictly Northampton to life every year. Their dedication — from late-night rehearsals to one-to-one coaching, choreography, guidance and emotional support — is truly extraordinary.
They give contestants confidence, skill and belief, and they help turn complete beginners into performers who shine on the Royal & Derngate stage.
AJ said: "Our professional dancers are the heart of this show. Their time, their talent and their support are absolutely amazing. Strictly Northampton wouldn’t be possible without them.”
