New comedy night brings big laughs to a familiar space

The opening night of a new comedy club at the Daventry Community Centre showed just how well live stand-up comedy can work in a local setting.
The venue, more often associated with classes and community events, had been transformed for the evening into an intimate comedy room.
With free on-site parking and a licensed bar open throughout the night, the experience felt straightforward and accessible, the kind of practical detail that matters when people are choosing where to spend their evening.
The audience, drawn from Daventry and surrounding villages, filled the room quickly and settled into an atmosphere that felt relaxed and welcoming from the outset. From the first act onwards, laughter came easily, and it was clear the crowd felt comfortable in the space. This was professional comedy presented without fuss, in a venue people already know and trust.

The opening night was headlined by Gerry K and Javier Jarquin, both experienced performers whose confident, well-honed sets landed strongly with the audience. Their performances set the tone for the evening, balancing sharp material with an easy connection to the room. It was the kind of comedy that works particularly well when the audience feels involved rather than anonymous.
Steve Gray, who runs the comedy club, said the intention from the start was to keep things simple and local. “We wanted to bring really good live comedy into a community space and make it feel natural,” he said. “Daventry has a strong sense of community, and we wanted the night to reflect that.”
That approach was reflected in the audience response. One attendee described the evening as “a really enjoyable night out,” adding, “It felt well organised, easy to get to, and the quality of the comedy was a genuine surprise.”
With the first night now successfully behind it, interest in the next show is already building. Bookings are coming in steadily, and the upcoming event will be headlined by Matt Bragg, known for his appearance on Live at the Apollo, underlining the club’s commitment to bringing high-quality acts into a local venue.
