Magic in the Museum: The Christmas Adventure arrives at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery

A new immersive festive experience is coming to Northampton Museum & Art Gallery this Christmas, inviting visitors to step inside an interactive story and help save Christmas.
“Magic in the Museum: The Christmas Adventure” is a 1–1.5 hour, app-guided game created by Bedford-based company Cardboard Clues.
Using their phones, teams explore the galleries, search for clues, and follow ‘cardboard’ Christmas characters, including a mischievous elf, as they unravel the story of a missing magical artefact that powers Christmas, solving festive puzzles and challenges along the way.
The experience is designed for children, teens and adults to enjoy together, and costs £20 per team of up to five players.

Creator Darrell Cannon said: “I absolutely love Christmas, and I wanted to create something that felt magical but still accessible. With three kids of my own, I know how expensive festive days out can be, so I wanted to make something families could enjoy together at an affordable price. Magic in the Museum is designed to be immersive, playful, full of surprises (with just a little bit of Christmas corny-ness) while getting people to explore the museum in a completely different way.”
Magic in the Museum: The Christmas Adventure runs at Northampton Museum & Art Gallery from 22 November to 4 January.
Cardboard Clues will also return to Northampton Museum & Art Gallery in the new year with a brand new murder mystery adventure.
