“I am excited to see what the future holds” National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024

On 20th September 2024, people and charities around the world will be coming together to help raise awareness for National Foot Drop Day, a day dedicated to promoting understanding and offering support for individuals affected by this often-overlooked condition. This year's theme, "Stepping Forward," aims to shed light on the challenges faced by those with foot drop and emphasise the importance of early diagnosis along with innovative treatments.
What Is Foot Drop?
Foot drop, a condition characterised by difficulty lifting the front part of the foot, can significantly impact an individual's mobility and quality of life. It often arises from nerve damage, muscular disorders, or neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, or cerebral palsy. Despite its prevalence, foot drop remains relatively unknown to the general public, resulting in delayed treatment and support for many affected individuals.

In aid of National Foot Drop Awareness Day, Physiofunction and Blatchford will be holding an event which will be taking place at Physiofunction clinic in Spratton, Northamptonshire NN6 8LD. They are encouraging people with unmanaged foot drop to book a slot and pop into the clinic for a free assessment, with a chance to win a Turbomed Brace! In the assessment, you will have the opportunity to try on a Bioness or Turbomed device.
A comment from last year attendee “This device is going to help me in so many ways and I am excited to see what the future holds!”.
Organisations and charities will host various events to commemorate National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024. These events include virtual seminars with leading neurologists and orthopaedic specialists, interactive physical therapy sessions, and personal stories shared by those living with foot drop.
"By coming together on National Foot Drop Awareness Day, we can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by this condition," said Jon Graham founder of National Foot Drop Awareness Society. "Through education, advocacy, and community support, we hope to improve the quality of life for individuals with foot drop and their families. We invite everyone to participate in National Foot Drop Awareness Day 2024 and join us in "Stepping Forward" to build a more informed and compassionate society.”
