Fete promises fun at Byfield

Organisers have taken inspiration from the Lewis Carroll book’s 150th anniversary for many activities, but have also introduced a range of new arena events, including tandem space hopper racing on double-seat inflatables to test speed, co-ordination and teamwork.

There will also be relays with the Banbury Cross Flyball Club, showing how its dogs leap hurdles to chase and catch a soaring ball before racing to the finish line.

BBC Radio Northampton presenter Helen Blaby has agreed to officially open the fete and will also judge Mad Hatter’s hat design exhibition entries.

The fete starts at noon on Saturday, June 20, at Church End House, Church Street, Byfield, with sports finales due to take place from 4pm.

Other attractions include the annual fun dog show, with registration on the day for £1, brass band music, dancing by Byfield School pupils, and a penalty shoot-out challenge.

Stalls will offer a bottle tombola, plants, cakes, books, cards, fudge, toys, crockery candles, jewellery and crafts.

Children can enjoy traditional fete games and activities, including skittles, bouncy castles, face painting, temporary tattoos, a sweetie jars tombola and cake pop decorating.

There will be teas, cakes, ice creams, a barbecue, chilli burger challenge, a Pimms and real ale bar and a champagne bar.

The fete is organised by Holy Cross Church Action Project and Byfield School PTA, which share any profits generated.

Fete entry is £1 for adults and 50p for children. A £3 family ticket, for two adults and up to four children, is also available.
