Family fun at Royal & Derngate this October
There is a great choice of shows for younger audiences at Northampton’s Royal & Derngate in October, with two popular children’s books, Pirates Love Underpants and A Squash and a Squeeze, brought to life on stage, and family friendly beatboxer Shlomo introducing kids to a world of funny sounds!
Based on the beloved book by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, Pirates Love Underpants comes to Royal & Derngate for two performances on Friday 3 October. Audiences can set sail on a family adventure with a swashbuckling party of pirates on their quest to find the fabled Pants of Gold for the Captain’s Treasure Chest. Suitable for ages 1 and upwards, this charming show is filled with music and puppetry.
World record-breaking beatboxer SK Shlomo (they/them) makes all kinds of music, using just their mouth and a mic, and their five-star sell-out show Shlomo’s Beatbox Adventure for Kids takes to the Royal stage on Wednesday 29 October, conjuring a world of brilliant noises and cool music. The international star has collaborated with Bjork, Ed Sheeran and Gorillaz, and performed on main stages at festivals like Glastonbury.
The magical world of A Squash and a Squeeze can be seen live on stage for the first time in a new tour that comes to Royal & Derngate from Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November. Based on the best-selling picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the story tells of a little old lady, who thinks her cottage was too small, and takes the advice of a wise old man to fill her house with a noisy crowd of farmyard animals. This heart-warming and hilarious musical adaptation is filled with beautiful puppets and enchanting songs, and is ideal for ages 3 to 8.
