Northampton mum pens book advising teenagers on how to launch a successful career
The book is also aimed at parents as the author wants them to be able to direct their children
A Northampton mum has penned a book which she hopes will help parents and teenagers to understand how young people can launch successful careers.
Fiona O’Neill, who has a teenage daughter, is a business psychologist, career coach and founder of a young person’s career platform - Cosmikos.
The now-author has penned a self-published advice book entitled ‘Making Millions: How Ordinary Teens Can Transform into High Earners and How You Can Too’ in a bid to share her expertise.
Within the book, Fiona interviews with young professionals, including a former Apprentice winner, and offers advice for parents to help their teenagers, as well as advice for young people themselves.
Fiona said: “I am the mother of a teenager so I wrote this book with a view to fill some of the gaps.
“Young people coming out of education are not necessarily aware enough to know how to find work and they need to be more aware of how successful young people make money.
“For the book I spoke to one women who set up an Instagram account at a young age and was able to land an apprenticeship with Google, as well two young people who were making money during lockdown with an ecommerce business and a young woman who was the youngest person in her company to get a syndicated podcast.
“These are all people who are making a living in a way that we need to celebrate a bit more and there’s loads of advice in the book for teens and college leavers who want to have a successful career.”
Although the book is aimed at teenagers and young people, Fiona is keen for parents to read the book as well, as she believes parents can help pave the way for their children to be successful.
She added: “There are teenagers who are ready to start a business or make money when they are quite young or there are those who are thinking about their girlfriend or the next party.
“As parents we need to help direct them and give them ways to make money and become independent.
“But the problem is parents don’t always know what the market is like at the moment, so I want the book to be informative for parents but also inspirational for teenagers.
“We live in challenging times however the internet business is thriving and as long as young people can focus on the digital world and understand business I think there are a lot of opportunities out there.
“You just need to know where to look so the message to teenagers is not to worry.”
‘Making Millions: How Ordinary Teens Can Transform into High Earners and How You Can Too’ is available now on Amazon and Kindle.
