Family drive-in show of David Walliams’ ‘Billionaire Boy’ is coming to Northampton
‘Billionaire Boy’ written by children’s author, David Walliams, has been developed into a covid-safe drive-in show for all of the family to enjoy and is coming to Franklin's Gardens in Northampton this Easter.
Billionaire Boy started life as a David Walliams novel for children in 2010 before being adapted into a BBC production in 2016. It has now been transformed into a live theatre show for families to enjoy safely as the nation continues its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
It tells the story of twelve-year-old Joe Spud, who is the richest boy in the country. He has his own sports car, £100,000 a week pocket money and two crocodiles for pets. What Joe does not have, however, is a friend. He thus decides to leave his posh school and start at the local comprehensive but things do not go as planned for Joe and things get messy as he tries to find the one thing money cannot buy.
Children’s author, David Walliams, said: “I am delighted that families will have the opportunity to see some live theatre again. The show is hilarious and I hope it spreads some happiness in these difficult times.”
The covid-safe ‘Car Park Party’ was launched in summer 2020 with its Horrible Histories ‘Barmy Britain’ family drive in shows. This was followed by its hugely successful Car Park Panto, performing ‘Horrible Christmas’ to 40,000 family members in their cars up and down the country.
This latest production is being brought to audiences by the award-winning Birmingham Stage Company and Coalition Agency.
Adapter and director of Billionaire Boy, Neal Foster, said: “It was wonderful to be part of a magical enterprise in 2020 bringing live theatre to families desperate for the joy and connection theatre provides, so we are delighted to be presenting our production of one of David Walliams’ most popular stories which began its national tour in 2019 and was abruptly halted by Covid.
“The show’s actors are thrilled with the opportunity to return to a new stage with a story that demonstrates the importance of friends and family at this critical time for the world”.
The Car Park Party show of Billionaire Boy will take place on Thursday, April 8 at Franklin's Gardens in Northampton at 2pm and 5pm.
Tickets as well as terms and conditions are available on the Car Park Party website.
