A Northamptonshire author who wrote a crime novel after being furloughed duringthe COVID pandemic has now completed the second novel in the series. RichardHolland, who was born in Leicestershire and lives in Duston published Last ManStanding in April with Troubador, a Market Harborough based publisher.Last Man Standing depicts a team of officers based in Leicester city centre at thefictional headquarters of Lodge House, which is named after Travis PerkinsNorthampton Headquarters where Richard worked for more than 19 years. Last ManStanding begins when a body is found in a burnt out shell of a car, before a secondmurder just days later appears to be unrelated. As the investigation into both crimesdevelop and the links begin to emerge, the team expose retired soldiers, a journalistwith an agenda and two terrorists who were convicted in 1990’s Northern Ireland, butreleased under the terms of the Good Friday peace agreement. Anger, bitternessand disloyalty are prevalent throughout and serve as a dark hangover from theheight of The Troubles.The book follows Richard’s debut novel Killing Time, which was published inDecember 2020, also with Troubador. Killing Time sees a series of murders linkingback to a string of high profile watch and jewellery heists on Leicester’s famousgolden mile in the 1980’s.Richard’s work has provided a healthy source of escapism as he navigated theuncertainty of the pandemic, and after being furloughed from work in 2020. Last ManStanding has also provided a psychological escape after a family bereavement in2022. Richard has been married to his wife Nicola for ten years.
