There will be something for all ages as a new season of live entertainment has been unveiled for The Core at Corby Cube.
The comedy programme includes visits from Ed Byrne, Mark Watson and Rich Hall. The multi-talented Brian Conley comes to town and ITV’s Keith Barry brings his mind-twisting show, Brain Hacker.
Musical highlights include international songstress and Corby favourite Barb Jungr, top jazz pianist John Law, Irish music legends The Fureys and some of the top tribute shows around.
Strictly star Pasha Kovalev returns with a new dance spectacular, and family entertainment includes the popular children’s story The Gruffalo’s Child.
The live performance programme is complemented by NT Live and ENO Live broadcasts, bringing top theatre productions to the big screen.
The Spring will also see The Core continue its fifth birthday celebration with a selection of £5* tickets on offer for customers introducing someone new to the venue.
The Core is delighted to bring more top comedians to Corby this Spring. Sharp-witted Irishman Ed Byrne returns in January for a second performance of his latest show Outside, Looking In, due to popular demand.
Stand up comedian Justin Moorhouse charms audiences with his new show Destiny Calling. Radio 4 and Mock the Week regular Mark Watson brings his chaotic style to The Core and rising star Rob Beckett also makes his first visit.
Looking ahead to May, tickets are now on sale for the dry-witted American comic Rich Hall.
The multi-talented Brian Conley comes to Corby in March with his all-new show Alive and Dangerous, taking a retrospective journey through his stage and screen career, with a mix of comedy sketches and song.
With his combination of mind control, deception, mentalism and hypnotism, Irish entertainment star Keith Barry brings his show Brain Hacker in April.
Music highlights include a return visit by Corby favourite Barb Jungr, performing songs from her new album, Shelter From the Storm, alongside material by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Stephen Sondheim and Burt Bacharach.
One of the UK’s most versatile and imaginative jazz pianists and composers, John Law, performs with his quartet New Congregation. The Dublin Legends, featuring former members of the Dubliners, perform classic songs and ballads from the world of Irish folk music when they visit in early May, and there’s more for lovers of Irish music later in the month from The Fureys.
Masters of musical comedy parody, The Barron Knights bring an evening of old favourites from the ‘60s and ‘70s, along with some brand new songs performed in their harmonic and hilarious style.
The music programme also includes a selection of the best tribute shows around, from The Bee Gees Story – Nights on Broadway to the hits of Neil Diamond in A Beautiful Noise. Purple Zeppelin recreates the classics of two iconic bands, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, while Let’s Hang On celebrates the hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
The line up for Spring is completed by The Orbison Story, The Illegal Eagles, The Cavern Beatles and the Johnny Cash Roadshow.
Following his previous smash-hit visit, Pasha Kovalev, winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, presents his new and exciting dance spectacular, It’s All About You, guest starring Anya Garnis from Strictly and So You Think You Can Dance USA.
20 Stories High and Theatre-Rites join forces to create a unique mash up of hip-hop, theatre and puppetry, performing as The Broke ‘N’ Beat Collective, in a raw, gritty, funny and moving gig that explores the hardships faced by young people in the UK today. With Danny Hero Sneak Peek, Made in Corby and Perfect Pitch bring local audiences the first chance to hear Corby’s new musical, Danny Hero, which will be staged with a local cast in October 2016.
There’s a great selection of family entertainment this Spring, including the magical stage adaptation of award-winning children’s book, The Gruffalo’s Child.
There is also some enchanting dance theatre for younger audiences with Shiny offering a dazzling interactive show especially for children aged six months to four years, and the quirky dance show Grass using performance, puppetry and projection to inspire children to look closely at the world around them.
Northern Ballet Theatre bring their magic to The Tortoise and the Hare in a delightful production aimed at introducing little ones to live ballet, recommended for ages 18 months and upwards.
Talented young artists from across The Core’s Get Involved programme present the heart-warming play It Snows, written by acclaimed playwright Bryony Lavery and the Artistic Directors of Frantic Assembly. It Snows forms part of the National Theatre Connections Festival and will enable young artists from Corby to develop in all aspects of theatre-making.
Audiences can also enjoy a brand new showcase night Launchpad, featuring the best new theatre from across the region by its most exciting theatre makers. A night of extracts, works in progress and short-form drama using a range of media, Launchpad is hosted by The Core’s Director Nick Walker.
The Core is delighted to welcome a wide range of local groups to the venue, including Corby Amateur Theatrical Society with their summer musical production Grease, Corby Rotary Club with their presentation of Youth Brass 2000, performances from Sharon Potter and Dena Smith School of Dance, and the ever popular Corby Gang Show.
Alongside The Core’s regular film programme, there is also the opportunity to see some top theatre events on the big screen, including Les Liaisons Dangereuse and As You Like It from NT Live, Mozart’s classic opera The Magic Flute from ENO Live and Romeo & Juliet, with a cast including Derek Jacobi, from Branagh Theatre Live.
The Core’s Get Involved programme also continues to offer high quality creative experiences for all ages and across different art forms. The programme includes weekly sessions offering the opportunity of working with experienced artists to gain more knowledge, skills and understanding of an art form, and an education programme that enables schools to enrich a creative curriculum, plus much more.
