CAST members from Royal & Derngate’s pantomime Aladdin, including Bobby Davro, brought some festive cheer during a visit to the children’s ward at Northampton General Hospital.
The comedian, who performs the role of Wishee Washee, was joined in costume by members of the ensemble to help bring a smile to the faces of youngsters who have spent the start of the New Year in hospital.
Mr Davro, who has received extremely positive reviews for his performances, said he had enjoyed his time in Northampton and would be sad at the end of the final showing of the pantomime on Sunday.
He said: “We’ve had a ball. I have done 27 pantomimes and I can honestly say this has been the loveliest and friendliest cast I have ever worked with.
“Everybody has been fantastic and really enthusiastic.
“I think it is a terrific show and we have set the benchmark for pantomimes in the future. The people of Northampton have been fantastic audiences.
“I will be sad after the final performance on Sunday but I will be pleased to go home and see my children.
“It is good for the soul to come to the children’s ward and meet some of the patients. I’m very lucky that I have three healthy children.”
The production of Aladdin also stars pantomime debutant Brian Fortuna, who performed on two series of BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing and appeared in the film The Aviator with Leonardo Di Caprio.
In his 40th pantomime season, Jeffrey Holland plays the role of Widow Twankey, and the production also includes a cameo from the world’s most famous fox, Basil Brush, in the role of Chief Inspector Basil.
The production of Aladdin runs until Sunday.
