Sue Townsend, the late author of the popular Adrian Mole books, is the playwright of a production coming to Northampton.

Set in the 70s, ‘Bazaar and Rummage’ centres around a group of agoraphobic women who set up their own sale to try and overcome their fears.

The play will be shown at The Playhouse Theatre on Clare Street from Tuesday, September 22 to Saturday, September 26. It contains some adult themes.

Directing the production is Pat Nash, who has been with the theatre for over 30 years. Nash has appeared in many roles, most recently in ‘Lovesong’ as the character Maggie.

Sue Townsend, ‘Bazaar and Rummage’ playwright, saw huge success in the 80s with her series of Adrian Mole books - one of which was adapted for the stage.

‘Bazaar and Rummage’ was first performed in 1982, at The Royal Court Theatre. It is described as “very entertaining, witty and poignant”, with ordinary people overcoming fear to rejoin society.
