Speaking about the announcement, Meg said: “It’s very surreal. We got the email a few months ago so it’s been really hard to keep it under wraps because we’re all so excited.

“Glastonbury is the best festival in the world so it’s a massive compliment that we were asked to play and we can’t wait.

“Mark and I have never been before, so it’s pretty cool that our first time will be as performers.

“The other guys have been before though and have assured us it lives up to the hype.

Meg said: “BBC Introducing Northampton have been massive supporters of us, especially Lal.

“We’re so grateful because without that we wouldn’t have an opportunity like this.

“The Introducing thing is so important for bands like us.”

Mr Muttock, who hosts the weekly show on BBC Radio Northampton, explained that OhBoy! first caught his attention about two years go.

He said: “Even then we knew they had potential.

“Broadcasting legend Steve Lamacq fell in love with them shortly after, playing them regularly on his BBC 6 Music show.

“BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens has championed them since we sent him their 2014 release God Look After The Quiet Kid and they went onto record a session at Maida Vale studios.

“BBC introducing is all about new music and has launched careers of acts including James bay, Jack Garrett, Jake Bugg and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

“It gives a platform for unsigned bands to be heard by a greater audience.”

OhBoy! play the BBC Introducing stage at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday, at 3.55pm.
