The Errol Flynn Filmhouse is taking part in the British Film Institute’s Black Star: Black Musicians On Film season. It begins on Saturday, November 5, with 1972’s The Harder They Come On, followed by a reggae-themed launch party from 9pm until late. The 1991 American teen drama Boyz N The Hood, starring Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr, will be screened on Sunday, November 13, with romantic thriller The Bodyguard being shown on Sunday, November 20, musical drama Dreamgirls on Sunday, November 27, and Prince’s Purple Rain on Sunday, December 4. The season ends on Sunday, December 11, with The Wiz, a retelling of The Wizard of Oz in an urban setting with a soul soundtrack.

A BFI spokesman said: “Black Star champions the achievements of black stars from the earliest years of cinema through to the present day, while exploring why opportunities have been historically limited for black actors.”
