The much-loved children’s book Aliens Love Underpants comes to The Core at Corby Cube for the Christmas show.
The show runs from Monday December 7 to Thursday December 24.
This family favourite has been re-imagined for the stage by Adam Bampton-Smith of children’s theatre company Big Wooden Horse, and produced by Nick Brooke, with effects, original music, lots of aliens and many, many pants.
Aliens Love Underpants tells the story of a gang of mischievous aliens on a visit to earth, travelling not to visit to the earthlings, but simply to steal their underpants.
Adam said: “One of the big challenges is taking this book to the stage is that there are very few words in the book. Not enough to adapt it for a stage show lasting an hour.
“It is also coming up with new material but something that is sympathetic to the original story.
“I think we have hit the right balance with this show and it has gone down well.
“We have also given the story a Christmassy twist as we are going to be at the Corby theatre over the festive period.”
The book, written by Claire Freedman and illustrated by Ben Cort, was selected for Richard and Judy’s Children’s Book Club with the help of pupils from schools around the UK, and has been hugely popular since it was first published in 2007.
Ben said: “It is rather thrilling to see some of the artwork and designs that you have done for a book bought to life for the show.
“I have seen it a number of times and it is a great show. I have to say that it was not something I was expecting to happen when I did the illustrations for the first book back in 2007.”
Tickets for the show cost from £9.50. To book call the box office on on 01536 470 470 or visit www.thecorecorby.com.
