TENNIS: Youth is working for Dallington teams in winter leagues
A youthful looking Dallington Men's and Ladies A lead the way in the top tier of the Northampton Lawn Tennis winter leagues.
Three wins out of three sees Dallington Men’s A sit top of Men’s division one, having played one more than second placed County A.
The three wins include two 7-1 victories, one of which was against their B team, and a narrow 5-3 victory over Northampton A.
Dallington’s elite men’s side is becoming ever more youthful season after season, with coach Steve Morris being the only player over the age of 28 to have featured.
Teenager Alex Ballinger is making a mark in his first full season in Dallington’s A team, picking up a crucial set with partner Joel Wood in their 5-3 win over Northampton A.
The regular pairing of brothers Steve and Andy Guy are yet to drop a set this season, picking up all 12 sets, for the loss of just 13 games.
Dallington have faired equally as well at the top of their lady’s game, who also lead the way in winter division one.
Like the male counterparts, they have won all three of their matches so far this campaign dropping just three sets, and picking up two 8-0 victories.
Dallington Ladies A also have an air of youth about them, with a quartet of juniors making up the squad.
Harriet Leach, Abigail Pearce, Imogen Allen and Northampton Lawn Tennis League’s Young Player of the Year Steph Reynolds have only dropped one set between them thus far.
The 2016/17 Northampton Lawn Tennis Winter League has seen a two mixed leagues added for the first time, with four teams in division one, and six in division two.
Abington A have got off to a perfect start in division one, winning all three matches played, albeit two of those wins by 5 -3.
They are up against County A, Northampton A and LMRCA in the first winter mixed division one.
In mixed division two, Duston United A lead the way, having won two, with a draw and a defeat to add.
They are up against Dallington A, Nether Heyford A, Nether Heyford B, Thrapston A and Rushmere A – with one team being promoted to the top division at the end of the season.
