T20 CRICKET: Arblaster delighted as ONs celebrate T20 success
Old Northampronians ace George Arblaster says he and his team-mates are '˜on top of the world' after winning the Hevey NCL T20 Cup at the County Ground on Sunday.
ONs were in unstoppable form at finals day as they dismissed Stony Stratford in the semis before cruising past Rushden Town in the final.
Both teams were bowled out cheaply as Rob White’s men refused to relent, claiming a fine triumph at the home of the Steelbacks.
And Arblaster says the men representing the club couldn’t be happier to have got the job done.
“It was a day when everything happened for us and we just kept picking up wickets,” Arblaster said.
“We knocked the first six wickets down with the seamers in each innings so a lot of it was down to them.
“We also won by 10 wickets in the league on the Saturday (against Wollaston) so it’s brilliant that we’re winning games like that.
“We’re on top of the world after Sunday and it was just a fantastic feeling to go and win.
“It was something we’d been aiming to do for several years because we’d had a bad run in the cup for four or five years.
“To go and win at the County Ground - a lot of the lads hadn’t played there - in front of a healthy following of supporters was fantastic.”
ONs are enjoying a fine season all round as they currently sit on top of the NCL premier division table.
They are 25 points clear of closest challengers Finedon Dolben, but Arblaster insists his side will not be getting carried away, with nine matches still to play.
“We have been top for a few weeks now, but we know that one bad game will mean it’s back down to being neck and neck,” said Arblaster, whose side return to league action on Saturday, when they travel to Stony Stratford.
“We’ve got to keep winning games and see what happens.
“We’re massively aware that there are two or three other good sides who are vying for it.
“We’re just gunning for maximum points every week and hoping this is our year.”
