Ken Pisi labelled Saints’ performance at Twickenham as ‘average’ but paid tribute to his team’s defending as they saw off Harlequins.
Scores from Samu Manoa, George North and Kahn Fotuali’i secured a 30-25 success for Jim Mallinder’s men on Saturday evening.
They were pushed hard by Harlequins, who enjoyed the majority of possession but found themselves frustrated by some sturdy away defence.
And though he wasn’t exactly delighted with the performance, Pisi was happy with how his team held out, especially with Salesi Ma’afu in the sin bin for a high tackle.
“It was average, pretty average,” said the Samoan wing.
“We didn’t get into our game very much, but credit to Harlequins - they disrupted our ball at the breakdown and slowed us down.
“It just shows we count on our defence to win games as well and that showed here. Credit to the boys.”
