MEN'S RUGBY: Five-try ONs are too strong for Badgers

Bugbrooke had taken the lead with a Jonny Palmer penalty and a try from Ben Mann but the away side were soon hit by two red cards.

Kyle Dufty and Declan Swannell were the men dismissed, while ONs had Craig Stewart sin-binned.

ONs drew level thanks to a Charlie Cox try and they went ahead with a Fernley Simmonds score.

Jon Liburd set up Alex Crofts for the home side’s third, but Bugbrooke responded with a score of their own.

Guy Holt grabbed ONs’ next effort and Rhys Evans racked up the fifth of the match.

Bugbrooke again refused to go quietly, with Elliott Holton scoring twice, with Chris McKee sin-binned in between.

Both scores were converted, giving the 13-man away side a spirited losing bonus point.

Meanwhile, Old Northamptonians IIs beat local rivals Scouts IIs 24-0 in their merit table game.

Jacob Evans, Ash Fullthorpe, Scott Oldham and Billie North scored the tries, with Kieran Murdie adding two conversions.

Scouts 32 Dronfield 12

Following an outstanding win at Bugbrooke the previous week, Scouts were looking for a similar performance against bottom-of-the-league Dronfield.

However, an untidy, scrappy game evolved with Scouts taking five points to cement a top half position.

Adam Frost opened the scoring before Liam Hancock dotted down.

Frost then scored a trademark try and converted for Scouts to go into the break with a 15-point lead.

Scouts continued on the offensive and Bobby Bland crept in the corner.

Full-back Dean Lake gained the try bonus point, and Tyler Richards also scored before the end.

Syston 16 Towcestrians 26

Having lost their past four league matches, Towcestrians enjoyed some welcome relief as they won at Syston.

James Falvey kicked a couple of penalties before Zac 
Osborne was driven over the line.

Matt Bodily grabbed Tows’ second score but Syston fought back, aided by a yellow card for Peter Gowler and a red for Bodily.

However, Falvey finished the job with his boot, earning a crucial victory.

Tows IIs also made the trip to Syston, but were undone 15 -10, while Tows IIIs continue 
to impress, earning a 70-5 victory against Rushden & Higham.
