The American only left MK to return to the City Ground on Wednesday, but Town boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has moved quickly to sign the pacy wide man, who played the full 90 minutes for MK in the 0-0 draw against the Cobblers in September.

Ariyibi is 23-years-old and began his career in the youth system at Southampton, but was released by Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino without making a first team appearance.

After a short trial, he was signed by Leeds United boss Brian McDermott and made a couple of substitute appearances for the Elland Road club, before joining Chesterfield in August, 2014.

Ariyibi made 66 starts and 30 substitute appearances for the Spireites, scoring four goals, and his performances caught the eye of Nottingham Forest, who bought the player for an undisclosed fee during the 2017 January transfer window.

He has yet to make a first team appearance at the City Ground, and in the summer he joined Milton Keynes on a season-long loan.

Ariyibi is the Buckinghamshire club’s joint top scorer having scored seven goals from 23 starts and five substitute appearances, but his loan was brought to a premature end earlier this week, with MK going on to sign Middlesbrough’s Marcus Tavernier.

The Cobblers have swooped to bring the player to Sixfields.

Ariyibi is 6ft tall, was born in Arlington, Virginia, but moved to London with his family when he was only two months old.

He then lived in Nigeria, before returning with his family England, where they settled in Oxford.

Ariyibi has represented the USA at Under-20 and Under-23 level, but he is also elgible to play for Nigeria and England.

In his senior career to date, Ariyibi has made 89 starts and 39 substitute appearances, scoring 11 goals.
